2006
CCBA Accomplishments:
 |
Another
great year for Bike to Work. Monthly events were held in
Hartford, East Hartford, and Farmington. Regional events were held in
Manchester, Glastonbury, Granby, and Windsor. New bike commuters
were plentiful! Bike shop and corporate support is stronger than
ever! |
 |
Published two
jam-packed editions of Spokes, the CCBA's bicycle advocacy
newsletter. |
 |
Handed out free
helmets to children (funded by CCBA members) in Downtown Hartford
at the Hispanic Health Council Fair. |
 |
Started effective
"Advocacy Alerts" to the email
distribution list to keep members apprised of the best way to make a
difference for cyclists in Central Connecticut. |
 |
The CCBA has been meeting
with the CT DOT to discuss how bicycle considerations can be
built into the design process of state roads. |
 |
The CCBA now has a
board member, Martha Page, on the CT DOT's Bicycle
and Pedestrian Committee. |
 |
The CCBA has a
board member, Deb Dauphinais, on the Glastonbury
Bicycle Committee. |
 |
Dave Snyder from
the Thunderhead Alliance (national bicycle advocacy organization) chaired a
CCBA meeting and helped shape the CCBA's vision for an advocacy organization
in Central Connecticut with state-wide influence. |
 |
Organized
the first ever Hartford Ride of Silence to mourn those lost to car /
bike collisions and honor those that still ride. |
 |
The CCBA staffed
booths at both Celebrate West Hartford
and the Hartford Marathon to reach out
and spread the word about cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly
transportation method. The CCBA also had booths at many, many more
regional events. |
 |
The CCBA has been
pushing for bike racks on buses, bicycle
considerations on the planned Hartford-New Britain busway, consideration for
bicyclists on state road designs, increased utilization of Safe
Routes to School funding, and local bicycle / pedestrian
plans. The CCBA needs your membership and
volunteer power to remain vigilant and grow as an organization. |
 |
Website overhaul
with easy online
membership renewal and donations. |
 |
Started

great Annual Dinner @ Joe Black's! Aren't you
glad you are a part of this? I am! |
