The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcingthe completion of the State’s 2009 Long-Range Transportation Plan (2009 LRP).The LRP is a federally mandated policy document that outlines the State ofConnecticut‘s transportation policies and strategies for at least a 20-yearperiod. It is updated every three to five years. The 2009 LRP, which updatesthe 2004 LRP, covers the period 2009 2035.

Provide,expand and improve mobility options for pedestrians, bicyclists

and usersof other non-motorized means of transportation…

• Include areas for bicycles and pedestrians when creating a layout for a
• state highway or relocating a state highway.

• Work with regional planning organizations, municipalities and advocates of the interests of bicyclists and pedestrians to address the mobility needs of pedestrians and bicyclists.

• Continue to reevaluate and update the Connecticut Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan.

• Support municipal efforts to create TODs that provide access to and facilitate

the use of transit facilities and services.

Mandate: Emphasize the  Preservation of the existing transportation system

Providefor routine maintenance and upgrading of components of:

• State owned sidewalks, on-road bicycle facilities, and multi use trails

• Work with advocates of the interests of bicyclists and pedestrians and with other stakeholders to identify and prioritize projects to maintain and repair existing facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians.
